Across Arakan (Rakhine State, Myanmar), the names of Rohingya villages — spoken for generations — are being systematically renamed, depopulated, and wiped from official maps. When a name disappears, the memory of the people who lived there begins to disappear with it.
FARA is a digital archive of 1,023 villages across Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung and Sittwe townships. Each record preserves the village's Rohingya name, its official romanized name, its Burmese-script name, its village tract, and its exact coordinates.
The archive is built to support research, reporting, documentation, and evidence-based understanding of Rohingya village names and locations — for journalists, researchers, human-rights documentation, and the Rohingya community itself.
